WOOSOX AND THE PIKE TO PRESENT “BATTLE OF THE BANDS”

ON SUMMIT STREET THURSDAY, OCT. 6, AT 6 P.M.

Four-hour concert features five local bands, food, and drinks.

WORCESTER, MA — The Worcester Red Sox and The Pike will present “Battle of the Bands,” a four-hour music contest on Summit Street featuring five local bands, Thursday, October 6, at 6 p.m.  Tickets are now available for $9 at polarpark.com/battleofthebands.

The five local bands are “Between the Waves,” a classic rock original and cover band from Worcester; “On The Rocks,” another Worcester-based band that performs hits from the ’80s and ’90s; “The Midnight Riders,” a popular classic rock band of teenagers from Rutland; “Disco Lemonade,” a Worcester ’90s cover band; and “The Cogs,” a rock band from Holden.

“Together with our wonderful broadcasting partners at The Pike, we are pleased to add this new dimension to Polar Park entertainment,” said WooSox President Dr. Charles Steinberg.  “We can imagine Worcester’s college students enjoying an autumn night out in their new ballpark while talented local musicians gain even more experience performing live.  The event provides yet another example of the year-round uses of this civic jewel.”

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., the show will begin at 6 p.m., and the judges’ results will be announced at 10 p.m.  Each band will perform a 40-minute set on a 16’ x 16’ stage at the foot of Summit Street near Gate A.  Chairs will be provided along Summit Street, and Polar Park’s popular red Adirondack chairs will be set up along Plymouth Street.  Fans may also bring their own lawn chairs.

Wormtown Brewery on Summit Street will be open, as will A Taste of Worcester, which will sell hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, popcorn, and French Fries.  Hot Chocolate and coffee will also be on sale.  The Plymouth Street Playground will be open, and on the Simply Orthodontics Berm in left field, fans can play Cornhole, Polar Pong, Giant Jenga, What Do You Meme, Giant Uno, and Giant Checkers.

A special “Pike VIP Experience” in the Sherwood’s Diner includes a “Fresh Off the Grill” buffet featuring hot dogs, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, macaroni and cheese, loaded potato salad, kettle chips, and cookies.  This experience, which also includes an adult beverage drink ticket and VIP Credentials, costs $45 and is limited to only 30 people.

“At 100 FM The Pike, we’re all about the music and having fun with our partners at the WooSox, so this is a perfect combination for us,” said Bob Goodell, the regional vice president & market manager of Cumulus Radio Station Group.  “We’re looking forward to broadcasting live from our studios in the Sherwood’s Diner and helping to host and promote the first ‘Battle of the Bands’ at Polar Park."

Mistress Carrie, the afternoon drive host on The Pike, will broadcast her show live from the Diner from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. during the event.

The judging panel will comprise former owner of the Rock Bar, George Yantsides; The Pike morning host Mike Hsu; WooSox Ambassador Paul Barrette (who has worked in the pop music business for more than 40 years); and WooSox President Dr. Charles Steinberg.

The First Place Band will receive a host of prizes, as will the Fan Favorite Band, voted on by the audience.  “WooSox Battle of the Bands” t-shirts will be available for $18.

On the evening of the event, tickets will be sold at Gate A (at Fallon Health Square) from 5 p.m. through the event.

As part of "What’s Cool and New in WooSox ’22," local bands have performed at the Summit Street Fair, presented by Wormtown Brewery, before every WooSox home game this season.
